"If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it." - Margaret Fuller
Before moving to the United States I received my M.A. degree in Library and Information Science and a B.A. in Sociology and LIS from Yonsei University in Korea. My thesis topic was on the optimal site selection for public libraries in urban areas using Geographic Information Systems ( GIS).
After completing my Masters degree I took part in various research projects and worked as an instructor. The research projects included Understanding Science and Technology Information Behavior and User Needs of Industry, Academics, and Research Communities; designing of web-based Nursing Information System project; consulting for a retrieval system of the Korean Intellectual Property Office; and a study on collaboration between school, academic, and public libraries. As an instructor I taught Library and Information Searching and Practice at Anyang University and Practice of Computer Graphic at Daelim College.
Currently, I am a PhD candidate in the Information Science program at Florida State University. I am interested in several public library issues and space concepts. In particular, my interest in Library as Place prompts me to want to investigate the social significance of libraries. This topic connects library and information science with geography and sociology, in that social relationships among people in the library are studied in the context of geographical space. My interest, in particular, focuses on the geographical perspective of social relationships in libraries. I would like to analyze these relationships by using Geographic Information System ( GIS) and research methods in social science.
