I am Angela. My husband Tom and I both started the FSU MLIS program Fall 2008. We have a 4 year old son named Nicholas who is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. We are also expecting TWIN girls in June!
We all live in Gainesville. I work at the UF libraries, and have found that I need the MLIS to move any further up the ladder. Needless to say, with a husband, a 4 year old, a full time job, being pregnant with twins, and being in grad school, I really don't have time for leisure anymore. But "back in the day" I used to love reading and playing computer games (EQII & Thief were my favorites).
I taught elementary school for two years after getting my masters degree in Special Education. My first year I taught self-contained special education. That was a nightmare. I formed good relationships with my students and their parents, but I had no curriculum and had to create everything I did from scratch. The next year I taught first grade, and while it was a totally different experience, it was still incredibly draining for me. Two years of classroom teaching was all it took for me to realize I was not happy in that position.
I now work at the University of Florida in the libraries. I have been there for over four years now and it has been wonderful. While I am still surrounded by academia and get to use my teaching skills, it is SO much more my speed than teaching in the classroom. So now here I am working towards my second masters degree in order to advance in the libraries.
